C is for Chester!

On the first day of school we read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.  Right after our first Hebrew class with Morah Yanet ended, Miss Bernstein came in and said that she found a letter from Chester!  Apparently he came to visit us, but since we weren't in our classroom he decided to go ask other teachers if they knew where we were.  He left a letter outside Morah Yanet's door for us to read.  Now, why didn't he just go inside????

Morah Yanet told us that she tried to convince Chester to come next door but he insisted that we weren't there.  He gave her a kiss (so we would know he was there) and said something about going to see if we were playing basketball.....

Even though we got to the gym as quickly as we could, Coach Jeremy said we just missed Chester!  He also had a kiss on his hand and thought he heard him mention something about wanting to see if we were painting....

We rushed to the Art Room, but not only was Chester not there, neither was Mrs. Moses!  She did leave us a note that led us to Mrs. Koller's room right next door...

We were certain that we would find Chester, since the Art Room and the Science Room are next door to each other, but Mrs. Koller told us that Chester was really interested in doing a science experiment, but that he needed to read more about science first.  We knew that meant Chester was headed to the library, but we were getting a little frustrated with Chester.  One of our friends decided to ask a recent kindergarten graduate how we could find Chester.  Thankfully, that 1st grader told him to go look in the Library!

Mrs. Naturman explained that Chester wasn't in the Library anymore because he was too loud!  He kept going on and on about finding the kindergarteners, but was disturbing the other people in the library.  So, Mrs. Naturman sent Chester where anyone who doesn't follow school rules has to go....

the office!  We were sure that we would find Chester spending some time reflecting on his actions, but Mrs. Novak said that she and Chester had a nice talk.  She helped Chester remember how important it is to follow rules at school.  They also talked about ten big rules, or The Ten Commandments.  Chester had some questions about The Ten Commandments, so he went to ask.....

Rabbi Greengrass!  She shared a little bit about their conversation, and even showed us that Chester helped her clean up some toys that were on the floor of her office.  She said Chester was also really sad that he couldn't find us, so she suggested he go check our classroom one final time.

We walked as quickly as we could back to our classroom, threw open the door and found.....
another note from Chester.  We were extremely disappointed that we missed Chester.  We spent a lot of time walking around school, meeting new teachers and discovering new places, but missed Chester.  But, he did leave us a surprise...

a kiss for each of us to take home!  That way we can remember how brave we were on our first day of kindergarten!

¡I'm very excited to start my first year teaching kindergarten at Beth Am!  I have been teaching for 7 years... the majority of which were spent teaching 3rd grade, but I also spent one year teaching 2nd grade and the past 2 years teaching mixed-age preschool (3 to 5-year-olds).  I graduated from The University of Texas with a Bachelor's in Applied Learning and Development and from The University of Florida with a Master's in Education.  I love teaching and am always excited to implement new strategies and techniques into my classroom.... which are almost always inspired by my students!
